Anti-Human Trafficking Legislation - Pennsylvania

Working collaboratively with those in the anti-slavery movement across the state of Pennsylvania, Julie Janovsky, a policy specialist at Polaris Project in Washington, DC has spearheaded the introduction of two pieces of legislation:
- To create a state-wide Human Trafficking Task Force
- To mandate posting of the National Human Trafficking Resource Center Hotline, in certain establishments (e.g., hotels, rest areas on major highways, restaurants).

The Project to End Human Trafficking will facilitate a one-hour press conference on Wednesday, September 23rd as part of a day-long series of press conferences hosted by the Washington, DC based group Citizens for Global Solutions. The purpose of the press conferences is to take advantage of the G-20 meetings to bring attention to various human rights issues and to call for increased accountability for these issues by the most advantaged and powerful countries.
The Peoples' Summit in Pittsburgh

The Project to End Human Trafficking in collaboration with other local groups is co-sponsoring the Peoples' Summit here in Pittsburgh over the next few days.
The Peoples’ Summit, is a program of informed dialogue about the economic, social and political problems facing the world, that will take place from Saturday, September 19 to Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at several locations in the city of Pittsburgh. Some of the speakers for the summit are Howard Zinn, Walden Bello, James Quilligan, Tim Stevens, State Senator Jim Ferlo, Carl Redwood, Molly Rush, Anthony Arnove and Jeremy Scahill.
