General Internship Information

The purpose of the Project to End Human Trafficking (PEHT) internship program is to provide students with the opportunity to contribute in a meaningful way to the functioning of a progressive organization while simultaneously acquiring marketable skills in support of professional development. The career and learning objectives of individual interns are taken into consideration and used to inform decisions regarding the intern's responsibilities. Interns will fill vital roles within the organization, making the experience one of significant educational and professional value. Internships through Project to End Human Trafficking require a minimum of a three month commitment and generally follow the academic calendar (roughly early September through mid-December and early January through mid-May). In some circumstances, there may be opportunities for summer internships. Most interns will either already have a degree, or will be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in a related subject (i.e., Leadership, Professional Writing, Communications, International Relations, Human Rights, Women's Studies, or any of the Social Sciences). Each of the intern positions described below requires that the individual be detail-oriented, organized, productive, motivated, and committed to human/women's rights.

Research Internship

The Research Intern will engage in research and related activities in support of the project's mission. The intern is responsible for monitoring daily news reports, academic data bases, and other resources on trafficking in persons and the sexual exploitation of women and children. The intern is also responsible for organizing and presenting data in a professional manner. Interns in this position must possess internet-based research skills/experience, familiarity with academic resources, and strong writing skills.

Development Internship

The Development Intern will work with one of the project directors to assist in managing public relations and developing relationships with donors and foundations to fulfill the Project to End Human Trafficking mission. Responsibilities include researching corporate and foundation grants, writing grant proposals, assisting in donor development, maintaining foundation records in development database, and involving businesses through sponsorships and participation. Interns working in development must possess strong written and verbal communication skills, creative and descriptive writing ability, solid research skills, and some computer database management experience.

Design Internship

The Design Intern is responsible for creating posters that will be used as prevention materials to be distributed in countries where PEHT has ongoing projects. The intern will be involved in the creation of additional prevention materials as needed. In addition, the individual must be detail-oriented, organized, productive, motivated, and committed to human/women's rights.

Outreach Internship

The Outreach Intern is responsible for scheduling prevention education lectures. Once trained, the intern may conduct presentations and at times will be responsible for supervising volunteer projects. Internships are available for academic credit.
